The project consisted of the design and construction of approximately twenty-eight thousand (28,000) square foot, three-story apartment building (slab on grade), to be located on the Pennsylvania State University Schuylkill Campus, North Manheim Township, Schuylkill Haven, PA.
In analyzing the construction process and time requirements, Heim Construction proposed, designed, and bid on incorporating architectural precast concrete for the building’s exterior. A bid opening scheduled for 14 August and a completion date of 1 June took the construction period dead through the winter months. The inclusion of precast concrete mitigated the winter weather and allowed construction to accelerate through the winter cycle.
The project was completed on time and on bid.
